      • James Clarke was born in 1837 in Kingston Upon Hull. He was baptised on 19 June 1837 at Holy Trinity Church in Kingston. His parents were Mary and Samuel Hodgson, a Marriner.

        In 1841 James, his mother Mary and his two siblings were living in Holy Trinity, Kingston.

        In 1851 James was an Apprentice Tailor living at Upper Union Street, Steare Place, Kingston with his parents and siblings.

        In 1861 James was living with his parents [father Samuel, 57 was a Merchant Seaman] and two siblings at 42 Union Street, Kingston.

        In 1862 James married Eliza Vant in Hull.

        In 1871 James and Eliza were living at 58 Great Passage Street, Myton, Hull with their children, Samuel Clarke, 8, Ann E, 6, and John, 5, all the children were born in Hull.

        In 1881 the family were living at 10 Raglan Street, Keithley, the children were: Samuel an Assistant Schoolteacher, Ann a Milliner's Apprentice and John a Scholar.

        In 1891 it seems that Eliza was visiting with George Marrison (Harrison) a Farmer and his family in Worksop, Nottingham, and James was visiting his Son Samuel Clarke, 28 a Grammar School Teacher, and his wife Sarah, 27 at 4 Masthead Villas, Shipley.

        In 1901 James was staying with his brother Charles, 61 a Cabinet Maker and his wife Alice, 53 and their children at 119 Waterloo Street, Sculcoates.

        James died on 12 March 1905 in the Sculcoates RD Area of Yorkshire.
