  Mary Ann was born in 1830 in England. She was the daughter of Richard Corke [28 Apr 1811] of Tonbridge and Jane Corke. On 10 October 1846 Mary married widower Jacob Vant at St Mary's Church, Westwell. Jacob was full age and a Labourer. His father was William Vant, a Labour. Mary Ann was a minor, a spinster and a Domestic Servant. Her father was Richard Corke, a Gardener. Married after Banns. Witnesses were Abraham Vant and Sarah Burford. The couple and their young daughter, Catherine, 2, emigrated to the USA to arrive on 23 January 1849 Just before their second child, Isaac Byron, arrived on 8 February 1849.
